NRHH Highlander Chapter Guidelines


1 – OTMs

1. For all OTMs, for which there is an eligible nominee, an attempt should be made to cover each per month.

2. The OTM/Selection chair is responsible for receiving, keeping track of, and directing selection of all submissions.

3. All OTMs must meet the criteria of their respective categories as outlined in the national OTM manual.

4. All OTMs are to be submitted to the OTM/Selection chair by the last meeting before the 15th of each month.

5. OTMs from each category are selected by a vote by members of the Selection Committee in the above mentioned meeting.

6. The OTM/Selection chair must submit the OTMs to the regional office by the 15th day of each month.

 2 – Events/Activities

             There are three areas of focus for NRHH activities and events, which are as follows:

             Recognition – The primary means of recognition by the chapter is through OTM’s. Submitted or encouraged by members, these nominations will be judged, by the chapter, to determine advancement to possible regional recognition. The main recognition event of the chapter shall be the Awards Ceremony in the Spring Quarter.

             Leadership – These activities focus on building qualities in the residents that are important for good and effective leadership. These activities can be in the form of seminars or through interactive events. Topics may include time management skills, effective study methods and/or societal social problems among  others.

             Community Service – These activities focus on the betterment of the community in general or on aiding a specific underprivileged aspect of the community. Examples of community service events include providing company to elders in a seniors’ home, food/clothing/blood/bone marrow drives and helping to clean a vandalized area among others.

1.   Each member or group of members is responsible for contributing to all activities or events that are held or supported by the chapter.

2.    At least one activity or event from two of the focus areas must be covered each quarter.

3.    The Activities chair is responsible for keeping track of which members are doing what activity or event and when, as well as making sure that activities are done for a minimum of two focus areas per quarter.

3 – Director Positions 

            Activities Director

1.  Keeps track of which member(s) are coordinating what activity/event and when.

2.  Makes sure that activities/events from each focus area are carried out each quarter.

3.  Acts as a liaison, if necessary, between NRHH and PC staff.

            Recognition Director

1.  Presents the OTMs to the chapter for a vote on the winner of each category.

2.  Be knowledgeable on all aspects of OTMs.

3.  Promote OTMs throughout the residence halls in conjunction with the Publicity Director.

4.  Devise creative ways to recognize residents besides through OTMs.

5.  Submits the locally winning OTMs to the regional office by the 15th day of each month.

6.  Heads the selection committee during the selection process.

7.  Accepts the nominations from residents and presents them to the selection committee.

8.  Works with the officers of the chapter to set specific selection procedures.

            Publicity Publicity Director

1.  Responsible for making sure all NRHH bulletin boards are kept up to date.

2.  Makes sure NRHH activities and events are well advertised (ex – posters).

3.  Orders any NRHH paraphernalia for promotional purposes.

Community Service Director

1.  Responsible for keeping track of and coordinating any community service event.

2.  Act as a liaison between other community service organizations during joint events.

3.  Network with other organizations’ community service/programming directors.
 

4 – Conduct

             NRHH members represent the top residents based on academic achievement, leadership experience, and strong personality. Accordingly, the Highlander Chapter members are expected to be good examples to all other residents by not breaking any housing policies or regulations. Other behavior such being friendly and polite to all residents and staff is also strongly encouraged. Any member who breaks housing policies or regulations is subject to having his/her chapter membership revoked.

 5 – Exceptions 

            Any exceptions to these guidelines are taken on a case by case basis, and the decisions on any exceptions are to be made by the President of the chapter or by a two third majority vote by its members.
